How to convert a demo to a licensed version
You may use the demo version of Tax-Mate 1042 as long as you like. We want you to explore all of its functionality; however, the forms you create will include a watermark. To remove this watermark so you can file with the IRS, you must purchase a registration key online or call 855-376-1099. Please e-mail us about volume licensing.
How to register Tax-Mate 1042 so you can begin filing right now?
As soon as we receive your payment, we e-mail you a registration key. To activate the full version of Tax-Mate 1042, simply paste the number into the registration box when you launch Tax-Mate, or click the Register link.
How to install Tax-Mate 1042
- Download the installer and save it to your desktop.
- If you use Internet Explorer as your browser, click Run. If you use Firefox, save the file to your desktop, and then double-click the Tax-Mate 1042 Installer icon and click Run.
- Follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard.

Purchasing and installing Tax-Mate 1042
Do I have to purchase new software each year? Can I simply upgrade from last year’s version?
We update Tax-Mate each year — the forms, instructions, and transmittal formats — as dictated by the IRS and SSA. So, you must upgrade to get the latest information. Our upgrades typically cost about 60–70 percent of the full version.
Once I order, how long does it take to get my registration number?
You receive your registration number immediately after we approve your credit card.
Can more than one person use Tax-Mate?
Yes, you can install Tax-Mate on a network server or on a shared folder on a local machine.
Using Tax-Mate 1042
Where does Tax-Mate store my data?
The default location is C:\Program Files\Tax-Mate\1042\<Tax Year>.
Can I back up my data?
Yes! Tax-Mate has both backup and restore functions, which you can access from the startup page. The backup tool copies your database to the Backup folder. The Recover button overwrites existing data with your backup data.
Can I import data?
Yes, if you can get it into Excel. Tax-Mate’s help section features an entire chapter that explains how to import data.
Which data formats does Tax-Mate support?
Tax-Mate supports comma-deliminated (CSV) or tab-separated data, in a variety of formats: SYLK, DBF, DIF, Lotus, Basic, Merge, HTML, and FRM (Tax-Mate).
How do I import Quicken data?
You’ll need to export your data from a Quicken report and then import it into Tax-Mate.
Can I change the data once I’ve imported it?
Yes — you can edit, add, or delete any data using Tax-Mate.
Does the data I plan to import data need be in any specific order?
No, Tax-Mate will adapt to any order. However, if you would like to use the same order as Tax-Mate, click here to download import templates.
Can I print to plain paper?
Yes. In fact, Tax-Mate can save you money because it prints forms on plain paper. It also produces a nice form (one or two pages with instructions) that you can fold like a letter and place in a #10 windowed envelope.
Do I have to buy your forms? Can I use other preprinted forms? Can I use the IRS’s free forms?
Tax-Mate works with any vendor’s forms. We only sell forms as a convenience to you. You can also use IRS forms, but you’ll need to separate them because they come in four parts.
I'm getting an error when open the application "This action cannot be perform..." What should I do?
This error is usally caused by a conflict with the User Account Control on Window Vista and Windows 7. see PDF file for ways to solve the problem. (View PDF instructions)
How do I move the program from an old pc to a new one?
Simply move the folder contents from the old to the new. or use your original installer (same version as the current application) to install a copy of the program on the new pc. Then move your data file(s) (all the ".frm" files) to the new pc, and overlay the existing blank data file that was just installed with your old data file. (View PDF instructions)
How do I get Tech Support?
We are a small company with limited resources, and we don't necessarily have some manning the tech support line every hour of the day.

If you prefer to call we do our best to answer the phone (855-376-1099) during business hours, and especially try to have someone answer during designated tech support hours:
Tuesday and Wednesday - 8:30am-11am
Monday and Thursday - 12:30pm-3pm
If we don't answer the phone it may mean we are on the line with another customer, please leave a detailed message and we'll call you back. If you are calling during non-business hours, holidays, weekend, etc., please feel free to leave a voice message, we try to answer all calls with 24 hours.
What are your business hours?
We are open 9-4:30 M-F, and observe most traditional US holidays. Since we are in Arizona, we are in Mountain Standar Time for the winter months, ie Day Light Saving time, and Pacific Standard Time for most of the summer months.
How does the remote support work?
We have the ability to log onto your computer (with your permissions, of courese) and show you how the program works. We use a program called Team Viewer that be downloaded here: (Win,Mac).
